Goal:

Creating a Website for the #MYSEKOLAH Video Competition: A Platform for Malaysian Students to Share Their Stories through Creative Communication

The goal of this project is to design a website that enables students in Malaysia to upload and share their creative videos as part of the #MYSEKOLAH video competition, an initiative created by IACT College to encourage the use of creative communication in sharing stories. The website will serve as a platform for these students to showcase their work and share their stories with a wider audience.

Objectives:
  • To create a user-friendly and visually appealing website that is easy for students to navigate and use to upload their videos.
  • To establish a secure system for uploading and storing videos that ensures the privacy and protection of the students’ personal information.
  • To provide a platform for students to showcase their creative work and share their stories with a wider audience through the use of creative communication.
  • To promote the use of creative communication as a tool for self-expression and storytelling among students in Malaysia.
  • To encourage participation in the #MYSEKOLAH video competition and foster a sense of community among the students who take part.
Approach:
  • Conduct user research to understand the needs and preferences of the target audience (students in Malaysian schools). This can include interviews, focus groups, surveys, and usability testing to gather feedback on what features and functionality the website should include.
  • Create a wireframe or prototype of the website to plan out the layout, navigation, and user flow. This will help to visualize how the website will look and function before any actual design work begins.
  • Design the website using a user-centred approach, with a focus on creating a visually appealing and intuitive interface that is easy for students to use. This may include using clear and consistent layout, using appropriate and appealing color schemes, and incorporating appropriate imagery and graphics.
  • Develop the website using a secure and stable content management system (CMS) to ensure that it is able to handle the volume of video submissions and that student data is protected.
  • Test the website extensively to ensure that it is functioning correctly and that it is easy for students to use. This can include conducting user acceptance testing with a group of target users to gather feedback on the website’s usability and any areas for improvement.
  • Launch the website and promote it to students in Malaysian schools to encourage participation in the #MYSEKOLAH video competition. This can include using social media, email marketing, and other online channels to reach the target audience.
Solution:
  • User research: To gather feedback and insights from the target audience, user research methods such as interviews, focus groups, surveys, and usability testing could be used to understand the needs and preferences of the students.
  • Wireframing and prototyping: A wireframe or prototype of the website can be created to plan out the layout, navigation, and user flow, allowing the team to visualize and iterate on the design before any actual work is done.
  • User-centered design: By focusing on creating a visually appealing and intuitive interface, the website can be designed with the needs and preferences of the students in mind, making it easy for them to use and navigate.
  • Secure and stable CMS: Using a secure and stable CMS will ensure that the website is able to handle the volume of video submissions and that student data is protected.
  • Testing: Extensive testing of the website will help to ensure that it is functioning correctly and is easy for students to use. User acceptance testing with a group of target users can provide valuable feedback on the website’s usability and any areas for improvement.
  • Promotion: To encourage participation in the #MYSEKOLAH video competition, the website can be promoted using social media, email marketing, and other online channels to reach the target audience.
Result:
  • A user-friendly and visually appealing website that is easy for students to navigate and use to upload their videos
  • A secure system for uploading and storing videos that protect the privacy and personal information of the students
  • A platform for students to showcase their creative work and share their stories with a wider audience through the use of creative communication
  • Increased participation in the #MYSEKOLAH video competition and a sense of community among the students who take part
  • The promotion and encouragement of the use of creative communication as a tool for self-expression and storytelling among students in Malaysia.
Takeaways:
  • The importance of user-centred design: By conducting user research and designing the website with the needs and preferences of the students in mind, the team could learn the importance of creating a user-friendly and intuitive interface that is easy for the target audience to use.
  • The value of testing: Testing the website extensively can help identify any issues or areas for improvement and ensure that the final product is of high quality and meets the users’ needs.
